Appropriate Bias Tape Widths

by Jared
(MA)

I am just finishing up my first simple quilt. The measurements are
86" x 86" and I'm wondering which width double fold bias tape to use. I know I can use pretty much any width, but I would like to go with something "standard."

Is there a width that people tend to choose for larger quilts? Are there any differences I should know about? Thanks!

ANSWER

Jared, as you said, you can use any bias tape width you desire. But I know a lot of quilters use Wright's Double Fold Bias Quilt Tape (7/8" wide). It's made especially for quilts. I personally think it looks more proportional on larger quilts (rather than the standard 3/8" to 5/8" binding).

This binding is easy to apply, and they show you how to do it on their site. Best of all, you can choose from 27 different colors. It's a wonderful product. I highly recommend it. Here's the link:
