Bias Tape

How much bias tape can you get out of 1 yard of material if you are cutting 2 inch strips? Is there a formula for figuring this?
ANSWERWhen making bias strips, begin with a square piece of fabric. You can use any size, but larger squares yield more bias strips.
Each fabric square yields a certain number of bias strips. The number of strips (when sewn together) determines the total length of bias tape you can yield from that square.
Use the formula below to determine the bias length from your squares. In our example, we want to yield 2" strips.
EXAMPLE:- Size of Square = 12" x 12"
- Determine the number of square inches:
Multiply 12" x 12" = 144 square inches.
- Divide 144 by width of bias strip:
144 ÷ 2" = 72"
So, a 12" square yields a 72" bias strip.
