Converting Fat Quarters to Yardage

by Pat
(Maryland)

Dear Gloria, this site is wonderful!!!!!!!
I am new to quilting and would like to use a pattern that calls for fat quarters. I want to convert the fat quarters to yards.

Also, if I want to alter the size of a quilt pattern (make the quilt half the size) how would I alter the fabric required and the number of blocks to cut? Could I just cut everything in half (fabric and number of blocks)! Please help. Thank you.

ANSWER

If you're talking about 18" x 22" fat quarters, you can get four of them in a yard. As for calculating the measurements for your quilt, I'd recommend using a Fabri-Calc. It's a calculator for quilters. You can figure all your measurements, including how much fabric you'll need. Thanks for your question.
