Cut on Point

by Marianne
(MT)

What is cut on point?

ANSWER

Some quilts are sewn "on-point" rather than in straight rows. Blocks sewn "on-point" need corner triangles to form their square shape (See beige-colored triangles below).

Cutting on point means cutting your triangles with the straight of grain on the outer edges. The straight of grain is stronger than the bias grain. This helps to prevent stretching.

So, "cut on point" means cutting your pieces for a diagonal layout.
