Dresden Plate

by Miriam
(Beaver Falls Pa USA)

What size is the best to make and how much material is needed?

ANSWER

The Dresden Plate is considered "challenging" to most beginners. I don't usually teach my students how to sew this block until they've mastered the basic designs first. But if you're up to the task, read on.

There are several variations of this block, and some are more complicated than others. But here's an example of a "classic" Dresden Plate block.

What's the best way to make it? Find a pattern that has easy-to-follow instructions. The amount of fabric you'll need depends on the size of your block and the number of different fabrics you'll be using. Check the instructions for fabric yardages.

Have fun making your Dresden Plate block!
