Thank You!
by: Leigha

I am a self taught quilter and have been struggling with projects puckering and bunching since I started. I had no idea something as simple as the foot I am using could solve my problem. I am gonna try it for my next quilt! Thank you again!

Open Toe vs. Regular Toe

Comment submitted to Sewaquilt.com

Hi, just starting off in the quilting world. What is the difference b/w 'open toe' even feed foot and a 'regular' even feed foot. Which would I need?

Cheers Andrea

ANSWER

The difference between an open-toe foot and a closed-toe foot is space. An open-toe foot lets you view your sewing area with great ease. That's because the "toes" are spaced farther apart. There is less metal to obstruct your view.

In a closed-toe foot, the toes are spaced closer together. Your viewing area is smaller, so you'll need to work a little harder to view your stitches.

The photo below shows my "open-toe" even feed foot. To the right, you'll see a regular "closed-toe" presser foot. Since I don't own a closed-toe even feet foot, I had to show a standard foot.

Don't get me wrong, there's a time and place for both types of presser feet. But, when I'm quilting my quilt, I prefer the open-toe foot.
