Fusible Web

by C.J. Armstrong
(Schenectady, New York)

What is the best type of fusible web to use appliquéing on quilts? I have tried Steam a Seam, now using Misty Fuse. Have you had experience with either or can you recommend better?

ANSWER

I have used several brands of fusible web, including Steam a Seam Lite and Heat'n Bond Lite. I don't use heavyweight fusible, because it weighs down my project. And, since heavyweight fusible web contains more glue, it can make my appliqué too stiff.

There are other fusible products on the market. Which one is best? Like anything else, it comes down to personal preference. So, give them a try and see which one suits your fancy. Here's a few more fusible web products:

  1. Dritz Stitch Witchery Regular (for small, intricate pieces)

  2. Heat'n Bond Lite Fusible Web

  3. Wonder Under Fusible Web

  4. Trans-Web Fusible Web
