Joining Blocks

by Brenda
(Owen Sound, Ont., Canada)

I am working on a quilt consisting of 16" blocks. My problem seems to be keeping the blocks straight. There is no sashing between the blocks. Is there a trick to do this? Thanks for your help.

ANSWER

First of all, make sure your blocks are perfectly square. A square-up ruler will help in this regard. Secondly, check that you're sewing accurate 1/4" seams.

Lastly, and I know this sounds trite, but make sure your seams are straight. If your seams are even slightly off, it could affect the square shape you're trying to achieve.
