Machine Quilting a Log Cabin

by Luanne
(Pittsburgh)

I'm making a King sized Log Cabin Quilt. I'll use Warm and Natural batting. How would you machine quilt it... and how far apart?

ANSWER

Since you're machine quilting a log cabin quilt, you have several options. You could quilt around all the "logs," or just quilt around each block. Or, you could create an all-over pattern. Here's how an all-over quilting pattern looks. Scroll down the page, and you'll see several designs.

You didn't say what type of fiber blend you're using. If it's 100% cotton, you'll have to keep your stitching lines closer together. If you're using a cotton/polyester blend, you can sew them farther apart.

There are so many types of batting these days. So, always read the package directions to see their recommendations. Have fun machine quilting your log cabin quilt.
