Machine Quilting

by Lauren
(Boston, MA)

I have my quilt sandwich safety pinned and I want to start machine quilting. I know that I start from the middle and work out. Am I supposed to remove the pins as I sew or leave them in the whole time?

ANSWER

Lauren, when you're machine quilting, remove the pins before your needle reaches them. If your needle were to hit one of the pins, it could break. And, that's a very frustrating situation. So, remove the pins as you come to them.

When you've finished machine quilting, there won't be any pins left in the quilt. Then all you have to do is apply the binding strips. Have fun!
