I was having problems attaching the binding as well, then someone told me to purchase a walking foot for my machine. Now I always use a walking foot when attaching the binding, this alleviates the frustration and the puckering that can happen with your material, then I hand stitch down the other side.

I also like the swirls around the sashing strips. These stitches will stabilize your blocks. However, if you plan to wash your quilt, you might want to add some quilting lines around the outer border strips. That's because the batting will bunch up in the wash if it's not attached to your quilting fabrics.
