My First Quilting Project

My First Quilting Project

Hello,

I found your web-site yesterday and would like to make my first quilt. Thanks for such a great detail for beginners.

My best friend has 3 daughters, so I am going to make each of them a quilt when they turn 10 years

The oldest Catie will be 10 in one year, so I have plenty of time to figure this out! Her favorite color is purple.

Attached is the pattern I have created based on the beginner sections you suggested. The center square will be embroidered on a machine (when I figure out how!)

My question is should I put the squares on both sides of the quilt or should I just make the back side a solid or or print color?

ANSWER

Connie, since this is your first quilting project, you should keep things as simple as possible. You wouldn't believe how much work this little quilt requires. By the way, I like your layout and color scheme. Very cheery!

Now, down to business. I recommend that you sew squares for the top side only. Then use one continuous piece of fabric for the backing. Trust me, you'll be very glad you did!

When you finish your quilt, show the world your masterpiece. Go to my Quilt Story web page and submit a photo and/or a story about it. Have fun!
