Nine Patch Quilt

by Josie
(Peacham, VT)

How much fabric would I need to make a full-sized nine patch? Is there somewhere I could get a pattern (preferably free)?

ANSWER

Nine Patch quilt blocks vary in size and design. The size and design determines the amount of fabric you'll need. Obviously, you'll require more fabric for 12" blocks than for 6" blocks. You'll also have to consider the length and width of your border strips.

You can search the internet for "free nine patch quilt patterns." These free quilt patterns come in many sizes and designs, so you'll have a lot to choose from.

A lot of my readers ask me to determine their fabric requirements. As you've seen, that's not always easy and my time is very limited.

So, I always recommend a handy-dandy little tool called the "Quilter's FabriCalc." It's a quilter's calculator that helps you figure yardage for blocks, sashing strips, borders, backing and more. Once you own one, you'll wonder how you ever got along without it.
