In Hawaii - We have the same situation
by: Hawaii-Michele

Hi Mindy -

We face the same situation here and I am a beginner quilter. One of my quilting friends encouraged me to make a "quick quilt" by just sewing it without batting. I whipped one up as a birthday gift that afternoon and realized that was the same kind of quilt my grandmother made for me and it was "just right".

In researching the Plantation-Style quilts of the past, I also saw that some quilters used plain muslin or bed sheets to give body to their quilts. This could be a part of the history of quilting though. It was a way for home sewers to make use of all their scraps.

Yes, when it gets colder, I do prefer the 100% cotton batting quilts. Aloha!
