Quilt Binding

by Freida
(Bristol, Fl.)

Are the instructions in your sampler quilt for binding a general rule of thumb for all sized quilts or does the binding need to be wider for larger quilts? Thank you!

ANSWER

Quilt binding widths generally range between 3/8" to 5/8" finished size (sewn into quilt). This is true for all quilt sizes. You could always make it wider, but most quilters use these standard widths.

In my sampler quilt lessons, I use a non-mitered quilt binding. That's because it's simpler to apply. But you could also choose to add a mitered binding.

Here's a link that shows what mitered binding looks like and also how to attach it to your quilt. Thanks for your quilt binding question.
