Quilt Top Measurement after Sashing has been Added

At the end of the lesson for adding sashing, it is indicated that the quilt top should measure approximately 16 1/2" X 24".

Taking into consideration the scant 1/4" seam allowance, I estimated:

2 1/4" for each side sashing lengthwise (2)
6" for each block sewn in (2)
2" for the middle sashing sewn in.

I come up with approx. 18 1/4 inches across. I must be missing something very basic and fundamental! I would like to know what I'm doing wrong before proceeding. Would you please advise me? I really like my quilt top so far but it measures 18 1/2" X 26 1/2".

Thank you for your wonderful website. I could have never gotten started had it not been for these really great lessons.

ANSWER

Your measurements are right (18 1/2" x 26 1/2"). I made a typo, which I have since corrected.

I'm proud of you for stitching your quilt top so accurately. You're going to be a master before long!

Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
