Sashing for a Quilt

by Rose
(St. Louis, MO)

My quilt blocks are 18-inch squares. If I put a 4-inch sash around these blocks and stitch in the ditch, do I need to quilt the sash areas?

ANSWER

There's no hard or fast rules about quilting your sashing strips. You can choose to quilt them or not. That's the beauty of quilting, you do it your way.

If you're happy with the stitch-in-the-ditch look, you don't have to do anything else. But, if you want more depth and design, feel free to add more quilting to your sashing strips. It's all in your hands!
