Sewing Machine

I am just reading the information. I have always wanted to learn to quilt. My question is do I have to get a quilting sewing machine or can I start with a basic machine more within my budget? ANSWER You can start with a basic sewing machine, old or new. Of course, if it's used, make sure it's in good working order. All you really need is a sewing machine that sews straight stitches. If you plan to do appliqué work, you'll need a zig zag or a blanket stitch. Later on, you might decide to purchase a quilters' sewing machine. That's great. But there's no law that says you need that type of machine to make quilts. You can make all the quilts you want with a basic sewing machine. Have fun choosing your sewing machine.
