Choice of Sewing Machine
by: LucyLou

Having owned both Janome and Bernina, my choice hands down is Bernina. The Janome just did not sew with a quality stitch no matter how often it went to the shop. I still have it and it is a door stop now.

I own the Bernina 730 and a 230. Yes, I multi-task with embroidery while I am piecing a quilt. The 230 was a good choice. It has some decorative stitches, automatic buttonhole, and needle up/down (very important for quilters).

I bought a demo which had less than 2 hours of use on it for $200 less than the retail price. You might consider purchasing a demo.
The Bernina website has a place on it that will compare features of each model that you are considering. I found it very useful when deciding to get my 230. (I did not think the cost of the 240 was worth the extra stitches.) Good Luck.
