Stitching

by Linda

Do you backstitch? What size stitch is best to use?

ANSWER

I don't backstitch when I sew my quilt blocks together. That's because my seams intersect with other seams. When I do piecework, I set my stitch length to 15 stitches per inch.

Here's an example of intersecting seams:

However, I do backstitch at the beginning and end of my seams when I'm quilting the layers together. This gives my quilt extra reinforcement and secures it for the binding process.
