Strip Piecing

I just discovered your site and it is a wonderful resource; thank you. I do all my piecing and quilting by hand and am wondering if there is any reason I shouldn't use strip piecing methods when sewing by hand. Is there any difference in cutting through stitches that are sewn by machine vs. sewn by hand?
ANSWERStrip piecing works well with either hand or machine quilting. In a nutshell, strip piecing means you sew several pieces of fabric together to form a unit. Then, you cut that unit apart to yield smaller, uniform units. This not only makes piecing more accurate, it eliminates the hassle of sewing smaller pieces of fabric together.
Machine stitches are stronger and more durable than hand stitches. So, they're less likely to come apart when you cut through them. If you're going to use hand stitches, cut your units, and handle them as gently as you can. You're going to love strip piecing!
