Thread

I am unsure of what type of thread to purchase when quilting with 100% cotton. I really don't know what colour of thread I would buy when there may be several colours involved. Do I choose a dark a dark or light shade? Are there any guidelines for this topic? Thanks, Dawn.

ANSWER

Choosing the right thread for your project takes a little forethought. Here's a few pointers for choosing thread for cotton fabric:
  1. Select the correct thread size: (Size 50 or 60)

  2. Select the correct fiber content: (High-quality cotton or cotton-wrapped polyester)

  3. Select the right thread color: Choose one color in the fabric and purchase matching thread. Or, choose a neutral color (ecru or gray) that blends with all the colors. Use white or beige for pastels and medium gray tones for dark fabric.

  4. Select a needle type that compliments your fabric and thread. (Universal Needle, Size 11/70 or 12/80)
FYI:  The eye of the needle should be 40% larger than the diameter of your thread! Something to think about!

Happy quilting!
