Triangles

by Mary

For a 10 1/2" finished block, what size do I cut triangles for half square and quarter triangles?

ANSWER

How many patches are in your blocks? For example, do your blocks contain three squares across and three squares down? Or, do they contain two squares across and two squares down? Also, what pattern are you trying to create?

Without this information, I can't tell you the correct size to cut your triangles. The size of your triangles are determined by the number of patches in your blocks.

Since your block finishes at 10 inches, you should have an even number of patches going across and down. For a 10-inch block, I would recommend 2 patches across and 2 patches down. This means you're going to need 5 1/2" blocks (unfinished).

If you can tell me how many half square triangle and quarter square triangle patches you'll need, I can be more specific.
