Utility Quilting

At a quilting class, the instructor told us to "utility quilt" the large center part of a table runner. Can you give me some more information about this term?

ANSWER

Utility quilting means sewing a large, simple quilting design. Usually this involves placing your quilting stitches farther apart. Utility designs are easier to sew, and therefore, they take less time to complete. That's why they're ideal for beginning quilters.

One word of caution:

If you're sewing a quality quilt that you want to last a long time, DON'T use utility quilting. It's only meant for general purpose quilts that will be used a lot.
