Why are My Squares Too Small?

by Rebecca
(Trussville, AL)

I just sewed my first block. I followed the instructions which called for some solid 3-inch squares and then some of those squares laid right sides together and cut on the diagonal. Stitched together they were pretty half squares, but smaller than the squares to piece them with.

I compensated by just trimming my solid squares but am trying to decide whether to carry on with this method or find better instructions!

ANSWER:

Sounds like your seams are too wide. Make sure you're sewing accurate 1/4" seams. You can check the size of your seam allowances by following these simple instructions. Thanks for your question.
